Sorry, your wrong. There is a MAX 233, as well as a MAX 232. They are from MAXIM. HTTP://www.maxim-ic.com

A 233 has more receivers/transmitters than a 232, though both work off a single +5 v supply, with several 0.1 uF capacitors.

Maxim devices usually have better ESD protection than the Intersil parts
