#640 - Is Hardware Abstraction Layer Necessary?? |
Hi there,
This may be a little off-topic, so I appologize. I am working on a system design that involves two microcontrollers (not yet spec'd) to a x86 PC Interfaced via USB Bus. This PC will be running WinNT2k. I have up to this point been unsuccessfull in accessing any external hardware through the use of typical I/O. I have been told that I may need to get the Microsoft Abstraction Layer to be able to do this. Is this true? From the simple point of view: I need to be able to output a signal via a port of the x86 into a latch. Does anyone know of a way to get around this without having to purchase this $1000 program. This is a senior project design, and I must find a way to do this for much less money...any clues anyone? Thanks much!! Philip |
