I have the same question you have. See my 4/17/00 post on this subject titled:

Address decoding to write Flash or RAM

There have been a few suggesions, but I haven't been able to find an app. note on this design. Maybe I will write one if I ever figure it out. Also, check out the flash tutorial on this web site.
