Would it be possible to just wire the chip to the serial port and push data through with Perl?
Yes. If the chip has UART-ISP and you know the protocol (dunno, there might be manufacturers who keep it completely or partially secret), then you can program the chip via the serial port. Which language you use to make the host computer "talk" is largely irrelevant, as long as it "talks" in the protocol understood by the chip. |
