"Using C8051Fxxx in 5 Volt Systems" is the title of SiLabs' Application Note AN111
I don't know why, but I just have this sneaking suspicion that it might have some relevance somewhere... This appnote is great in one respect, the discussion of resistor pullup is excellent. this appnote also have some deficiencies It states use VHCT as interface to 3V3 out 5V in and then it suggest resistor pullup for less critical. so far, so good, but where is the suggestion of using a HCT (no 'V') which is much more popular (and half the price) and sufficient in most cases. Also, there is no mention of the 74LVC4245 which is THE chip for these purposes, and the only solution for bidirectional buses of mixed voltage. Erik |
