Thanks Chris for your suggestion but I wanted that Raphael have checked these codes on his hardware.

He has all for that: he can initialize his LCD etc.

I suppose that he didn’t OK initialize his LCD etc. Of course this needs in testing.

First code sends the ASCII-digits, the second code sends the alphabets. That’s all.
