I've been using a serial Flash AT45DB011B from Atmel. Being serial (SPI), it requires only 3 wires to address it. You can get it in 8 pin SO package.
This one is of the lowest capacity - 1M bit, I am sure that you can find 1M byte version, search on their web. These circuits operate on 2,7 - 3,6 V, but no problem to interface them to an 8052 on 5V, only Flash' supply must be appropriate. And of course, you have to make software for using them.
