#108437 - just for the record Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The 80C51SL is an application-specific extension to 8051, intended as keyboard controller/scanner and system manager in laptops (e.g. for processor temperature measurement, LEDs control and similar), and has a couple of interesting features, such as the "8042-style interface" which in fact is a simple bidirectional 8-bit buffering interface with appropriate control signals, enabling to attach the device straighforwardly onto ISA bus. It also contains an ADC, which is quite rare in early '51s, isn't it.
While this chip is hopelessly obsolete, there seems to be a descendant around. The Winbond W83L950 is a '51 based application specific chip, intended for the same purpose. Time passed, so this one contains 40kB flash (in system programmable), 2kB XRAM, except the "8042-style" interface also a LPC interface (a stripped-down version of PCI), multiple PS/2 ports, ADC, DAC, PWM and similar. IMHO, it could very well serve in general purpose application, all the special interfaces pins can be switched to plain general-purpose IO... Jan Waclawek |
