There seems to be continuing interest on the SPI-based-ISP-programmed Atmel '51 derivatives. Numerous such programmers/software exist, but this one - uisp - seems to be targeted for Linux. Although originally for AVRs, it is claimed to work on some of the AT89Sxxx's (not too surprisingly, the serial programming protocol is the same...)
