#100845 - OT: Original meaning of Trompe l'oeil Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The original meaning of Trompe l'oeil is the creation of the appearance of architectual features that are not real but created by painting effects. For example, painting a simple brick pillar to look like expensive marble; painting a simple ceiling to give the impression of comlex and expensive plaster work; or even creating the impression of a window where there is none.
The more sophisticated forms of Trompe l'oeil require a very good understanding of perspective. There are some nice examples in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trompe_l%27oeil And for some extreem examples see: See: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/stu/wall/ |
